Good to know

How does the sound work?
Tune your car radio to the FM frequency posted on the signs at the gate. Bring a portable radio if you plan to sit outside your vehicle.
Can I sit outside my car?
Yes — set up chairs or blankets in the space directly beside or behind your own vehicle so you don't block anyone's view.
Is there food?
Concession is on site with popcorn, hot drinks and baked goods. Bring cash or tap. All concession profits go to the foundation.
What if it rains?
The show runs rain or shine — it's a drive-in, after all. In the case of extreme weather we'll post a rain date here and email ticket holders.
Is it accessible?
The field is grass with a firm gravel access lane. Let the gate volunteers know if you need a spot close to the hall and washrooms and we'll place you.

Getting there

The cause

Why we do this

Every year our community turns a grass field at the Farmers Institute into a drive-in theatre for one night, and every dollar raised goes to the Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation.

Pitt Hopkins Syndrome is a rare genetic condition caused by a change in the TCF4 gene. It affects development, communication, movement and breathing, and most people living with it are non-verbal. Because it is rare, it receives very little public research funding — which is exactly why family- and community-led fundraising matters so much.

The Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation funds the science that moves toward treatment: gene therapy programs, patient registries, drug screening, and the researchers willing to spend their careers on a condition most people have never heard of.

Where the money goes

  • Ticket sales — cover the field, projector, licensing, and the rest goes to research.
  • Silent auction — 100% of winning bids go to the foundation.
  • Donations — 100% to the foundation.
  • Concession — run by volunteers; profits go to the foundation.

Thank you, Salt Spring

This night only happens because island businesses donate auction items, volunteers run the gate and the popcorn machine, and hundreds of neighbours show up with their headlights off. Thank you.
